Kevin Feenstra on Attractor and Baitfish Flies for Migratory Fish
There are times when Midwest migratory fish love the flashiest, most garish flies. Yet, there are also times when these same fish settle in, spending long periods of time in our rivers, waiting to fulfil their mission in the coming months. It’s during these times when flies meant to imitate natural baitfish come into their own.
Kevin Feenstra’s presentation covers when it’s best to run attractor patterns, and when it’s more effective to use natural baitfish. He discusses the color of attractor flies and flash that we use, as well as sculpins, gobies, salmon and steelhead fry, and other native baitfish such as shiners. He pays special attention to swung fly/spey fishing in the Great Lakes region.
