Member’s Tying Night: Guest Instructor Jerry Darkes
We organise monthly tying nights with some of the best fly tiers in the business. Open to all Anchored Outdoors members.
October Guest Instructor: Jerry Darkes
Fly Being Tied: Shrimpy Crayfish
Hook: Daiichi Alec Jackson, 2151, 2161, or similar curved shank salmon/steelhead hook
Thread: UTC 70D or similar, to match color scheme of fly
Tail: Pheasant tail fibers
Mouth: Grizzly marabou tip in fly color scheme
Rib: Optional- fine gold or copper wire, or 4x mono tippet material
Eyes: Optional- small plastic bead chain or mono eyes
Body: Coarse dubbing like Psuedo Seal, Crawdub, Senyo Fusion Dub, natural seal, or similar material spun in a loop and picked out, then small grizzly saddle of a similar color wrapped over top. I usually do orange and olive variations, but any color you want to do is fine.
Wing: Bronze mallard flank or mallard flank dyed brown
Front Hackle: Ringneck pheasant rump or similar feather with long fibers in color scheme of fly
Notes: Do not overdress, keep materials sparse. Can be both swung and stripped depending on the situation
