Fly Being Tied: The Stimulator

Son Tao is a US Army veteran who’s been tying flies for 5.5 years. During that time, he developed a reputation for his attention to detail and skills behind a camera. Son enjoys tying a wide variety of patterns but has a special fondness for dry flies.

Son started tying flies for mental therapy. After spending many tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as an infantryman, he had severe sleep issues. He was introduced to fly fishing/tying by Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, an organization dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled veterans. Once he began tying and fly fishing, his sleepless nights were a thing of the past.
Son ties regularly at numerous fly shops and at various venues for The Fly Fishing Show. He is an ambassador for Whiting Farms, Semperfli Fly Tying, Solarez USA, Abel Reels, Fishpond USA and Simms Fishing.

You Will Need:

Hook: Ahrex 531, Tiemco 200R, or Firehole Outdoors 718
Tail and Wing: Elk hair
Hackle: Whiting Farms dry fly hackle (brown, furnace, grizzly, ginger or variant)
Body: Single strand floss (pick your favorite color) or superfine dubbing
Underwing: Krystal Flash
Thorax: Superfine dubbing
